Anomalies in the Matter Measure

Nicholas Harshman; University of Iowa

A certain class of anomalies arises from the non-conservation of chiral symmetry when a classical gauge theory becomes quantized through the Feynman path integral. Beginning with a derivation of the quantum electrodynamics Lagrangian, then its generalization to an SU(n) representation of gauge field theory, classical Noether currents are computed and shown to not be invariant when calculating the matter measure of the integral functional quantization. Through the latter, a general anomaly function is derived.
