The Office of Grad Success & Belonging is happy to present our final Virtual Conversation Series of the semester with Dr. Leah Scharlott! Dr. Scharlott (she/hers) is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland. She focuses on teaching introductory chemistry courses and enjoys working with students who are brand new to the subject. She likes to incorporate different pedagogical approaches to ensure students gain confidence and are prepared for the workforce. She completed her PhD in chemistry education at The University of Iowa where she was involved in various graduate student groups and initiatives. After her time at Iowa, she was a professor at Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, where she participated in a student-faculty partnership program that taught her the importance of using student voices to shape the learning environment.

Entitled The Value of Student Voices: Using Student Partnerships and Feedback to Encourage an Inclusive Learning Space, Dr. Scharlott hopes this interactive conversation will encourage participants to reflect on the very real and honest challenges students face and how we (faculty, TAs, & mentors from all disciplines) can use their opinions and feedback to improve both learning and professional spaces.
